1 Year Anniversary Party!

by Mrs. Sauce:
One successful year of marriage down.....only what...seventy more (give or take) to go?

We hosted a jazz era party with champagne cocktails and lavender and elderflower cupcakes. It was a blast to gather friends and family once more (and lets face it- an excuse to wear my hot wedding shoes again!).

City Sauce Adventure: Joshua Tree

by Mrs. Sauce
Let me just preface this by saying I don't "do" metaphysical, faux spiritual hocus pocus. I don't buy reiki, psychics, energy readers or the like. So the idea of going to Joshua Tree has never really been on the top of my list. Many people I know have said how amazing it is, how you can have a spiritual experience in the dark warm nights while looking out at the stars. I was just hoping I wouldn't get bit by any scorpions or abducted by aliens. Actually, I take that back I was totally hoping I'd get abducted by aliens.
So we went in June. And nobody stopped us. It was a trillion degrees of intense burning heat with no shelter from the sun. We did stay at an awesome place called "Spin and Margies" which I would highly recommend, unless you go in June because they haven't got a pool.  When we arrived to Spin and Margie's there was not a single car in the lot. We thought it was strange but carried on. After our experience the following day we learned why we were the only ones at the Inn- nobody goes to Joshua Tree in the summer. Nobody.

On the first day we visited The Integratron for a sound bath.  Though it sounds like sexy cosmic experience, I assure you, it is not.  It is funky glass chimes echoing through your brain until you fall asleep for twenty minutes. Interesting, but not for $30 a pop.

We also took hikes in the blistering heat. There were cute bunnies and big rocks. Other than that I thought my dehydrated skin was going to blister off of my body and I would turn into a reptile. I survived but only because Mr Sauce promised me we'd find a pool afterwards.
We did find a pool although that entailed renting 2 hotel rooms for one night. It was so worth it. The 29 Palms Inn is quaint, quirky, and classic. What a great experience swimming in the colorful pool, enjoying the tasty fresh muddled mojito's after a long grueling hike, and finally realaxing in the shade. Complete with misters. And there were cute bunnies there as well.

Joshua Tree was an experience. I never say never.....but it may be an experience I'll leave in the past. This might be a mystical spiritual thing that Mr Sauce can do on his own.

City Sauce Adventures: Hiking Cherry Canyon

Before LA was four-billion degrees on a daily basis we loved to go for a hike on Saturday morning. We tried out Cherry Canyon in La Canada which was fantastic. Gorgeous views, not too strenuous and lots of different route choices.

Sunset Junction

From Mr Sauce:
Los Angeles: We went to Sunset Junction in Silver Lake this weekend to see our friends play on the main stage. Not the normal turn out (we have gone for the last few years-we live quite close).
When eating at one of the neighborhood bars in the junction the server informed us that if we wanted to come again the next day and use the back door of the restaurant to get in for free we could. Very cool.
There was a rumor going around that all of us neighborhood folks could get in for free based on our zip codes. We found this to be untrue.
Maybe the lack of any big band, and the fact that Kings Of Leon played this weekend put a dent in the turn out on Saturday. I actually prefer less folks but I am certain they do not. Who keeps the proceeds for the Junction?
We normally go to a pre-Junction party at our friends house but unfortunately they were out of town this year. We felt quite lost going in without our normal 5 or 6 cocktails at our friends house and a large group of us stumbling down the hill to the entrance about 7:00PM.
This time we wandered over quite sober and casually and got there before 4:00 to find a very low turn out at that time. Come to think of it, maybe it was a normal turn out for 4:00 considering we have never been that early.
Anyway, it was quite fun. We ate a lot of crap, drank horrible frozen margaritas, watched a few bands and stumbled back home about 11:00PM and passed out.
I am sure we will be back again next year. For better or for worse.
